Valley Forge Military College Accepted into NJCAA, Launching New Era of Intercollegiate Athletics

May 01, 2026

Valley Forge Military College (VFMC) has officially been accepted into the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), marking a major milestone in the College’s continued growth and commitment to developing student-athletes and leaders.

The NJCAA Board of Regents approved VFMC’s membership application following its April review.

As part of its entry into the NJCAA, VFMC will compete in Region 19 and will begin intercollegiate competition in the 2027–2028 academic year. The College has been approved to launch:

  • Men’s and Women’s Wrestling (Division I)

  • Men’s and Women’s Cross Country (Division III)

VFMC will become eligible for NJCAA postseason competition beginning in the 2028–2029 season, with the ability to begin issuing Letters of Intent to recruits starting November 1, 2026. VFMC’s placement in Region 19 aligns the College with a strong group of junior college athletic programs across the Mid-Atlantic, creating immediate opportunities for competitive scheduling and regional rivalries.

“Joining the National Junior College Athletic Association positions Valley Forge Military College for a new era of growth and national competitiveness,” said Col. Stuart B. Helgeson, USMC (Ret), President of VFMC. “We are building a program that will challenge our cadets to excel physically, intellectually, and morally—preparing them for leadership in sport, service, and life.”

The move to NJCAA competition reflects VFMC’s broader strategy to expand athletics as a driver of enrollment, campus life, and leadership development. With the recent addition of wrestling and continued growth in cross country and rugby, the College is building a competitive athletics program rooted in its military model and the Five Cornerstones: academic excellence, character development, personal motivation, physical development, and leadership.
