Cadet Life

CADET LIFE AT VFMC: A COLLEGE EXPERIENCE LIKE NO OTHER

The VFMC experience is a personalized process of development and growth.  Students work one-on-one with each other, and a small core of faculty and staff know everyone’s names.  Students choose their academic pathway and get assistance from the staff to support their transfer to the colleges of their dreams.  While pursuing their studies, students serve in the Corps of Cadets and get the opportunity to accept leadership positions assigned based on how those positions will grow the individual student and the team.  Students work with their Corps leadership to build the activities, intramurals, and projects that they wish to see occur on and off campus.  Outside of the classroom students have the opportunity to develop their own clubs or participate in clubs and athletics that support their goals.  VFMC is a family of learners, teachers, and trainers all focused on how we can all provide lives of honorable service to each other, our families, our communities, our nation, and our world,

THE VFMC EXPERIENCE

The VFMC experience is made possible by a commitment to several key elements:

  • Work Study and Internships

  • Location

  • Safety and Security Measures

  • Housing

  • The Corps of Cadets

  • A Commitment to Teambuilding

  • Student Athletics and Activities

WORK STUDY

VFMC offers both Federal and institutional work study programs.  Students can earn funding for their education by working on campus to support operations.  These activities include serving as librarians, and offering oversight to cadets in the student lounge and gym.  Work Study is an especially valuable option for our Citizen Leaders because it allows them, outside of ROTC, to demonstrate leadership by working with faculty and staff to develop schedules and execute activities.

LOCATION

Valley Forge Military College (VFMC) boasts an ideal location that enhances the student experience both academically and recreationally. Nestled near the King of Prussia Mall—one of the largest and most cosmopolitan shopping destinations in the nation—students enjoy easy access to a wide array of dining and entertainment options. Additionally, VFMC is conveniently situated near major cities like Philadelphia (30 minutes), Baltimore (1 hour), New York (2 hours), and Washington, DC (3 hours). This proximity allows students to immerse themselves in vibrant cultural scenes, from renowned museums and historic sites to thrilling theme parks, enriching their college journey beyond the classroom.

Moreover, VFMC is within walking distance of the charming town of Wayne, PA, where students can explore local shops and restaurants, providing a perfect retreat for relaxation and socializing. The campus is also conveniently located near public transportation, making trips to Philadelphia effortless and opening doors to countless opportunities for exploration and growth. With its blend of academic excellence, historical significance, and access to urban amenities, Valley Forge Military College is an outstanding choice for students seeking a well-rounded college experience in a prime location.

INTERNSHIPS

Cadets are offered hands-on internship opportunities that allow students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings. Aside from experiential learning with ROTC and the Corps of Cadets, interns gain valuable leadership and networking experience.  With strong partnerships across various industries, our on and off-campus internships provide valuable experience, professional connections, and practical skills to prepare cadets for success in their careers.  Students have worked with several offices on campus, served as teaching assistants, supported the Radnor Police Department, and several alumni and veteran owned businesses.

STAFF RIDES

The cadet  learning experience is enhanced through staff-led rides to both historical and non-historical sites near and far. These immersive trips offer cadets the chance to explore key locations, deepen their understanding of various subjects, and experience hands-on learning outside the classroom. Given our proximity to where our nation began and so many other notable landmarks and museums, our cadets have the unique opportunity to experience firsthand what most only read about in text.

SERVICE ACTIVITIES

Service Activities

Service and volunteerism are at the heart of our VFMC community. Students engage in meaningful work such as supporting veterans’ homes, helping at local food pantries, and mentoring children. These opportunities allow students to make a difference while developing a sense of purpose and leadership.

APARTMENTS

The Village, for all second-year Cadets, is a two- and three-bedroom apartment with its own kitchen, bathroom, living room, and dining/office space.  Surrounding their own quad, the Village has its own parking, and is located near classroom and workout facilities.  Apartment living is a unique option for two year students, and provides our Cadets with the opportunity to experience responsible, independent living in a safe environment.

BARRACKS

First-year Cadets live in the Barracks, which is a traditional college dorm that includes shared facilities and study spaces.  Cadets share rooms during Plebe System, but get their own rooms after earning their cap shields.  The air-conditioned Barracks are centrally located between the library and mess hall.   TAC Officers and cadet leadership have offices in the Barracks allowing them to mentor new cadets and provide oversight.

SECURITY

Safety is a top priority at our college, ensuring a secure environment for all students and staff. The campus is protected by six full-time security officers who provide round-the-clock coverage, monitoring the institution and its facilities at all times. This dedicated team is supported by a comprehensive network of campus-wide cameras, enhancing surveillance and response capabilities. Well-lit walkways connect all campus buildings, promoting safe navigation throughout the grounds, and the security department conducts thorough audits of public lighting three times a year to ensure optimal visibility. These measures reflect our commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming campus where everyone can focus on their academic and personal growth with peace of mind.
