Alumni return for Sophomore Seminar
Oct 25, 2025
Seven former cadets participated in our first annual Sophomore Seminar on Friday, October 24 in the Sara Crawford Room.
The event was organized by Associate Professor Hugh Pearce in order to connect the sophomore class with recent graduates to get an honest perspective on the transition from VFMC to their path forward schools.
Laura Zhang ‘24 (Delaware), Madison Powell ‘24 (Delaware), Leeyah Martinez ‘24 (Delaware), Jeremiah Tran ‘24 (Delaware), Ben Coleman ‘24 (Delaware), Cody Moore ‘24, and Daniel Nulman ‘25 (Syracuse) were the alumni who participated.
The recent grads, who are now in their junior and senior years at their follow-on schools, had a formal Q+A with our cadets as well as offering their own advice about the transition from VFMC to a four-year program.
“I thought it was really awesome when I got the email from Mr. Pearce,” Tran said. “I did really like this school when I came, and I think it’s important that the students coming here now know what they’re about to go into because if not it’s going to be very detrimental to the student. It was a really difficult transition going from Valley Forge to a big-time university, but I had help through Captain Pearce to prepare myself. But in case those students now don’t have that opportunity to have people helping them, to teach them what’s going to be up ahead on the road, I just wanted to help out.”
