Mission & Values

BE YOUR BEST SELF AT VFMC

The key to becoming the best version of yourself is mastering self-discipline. This is extremely difficult to do on your own. And it is why Valley Forge exists. We are a community that is committed to developing the whole person. The daily habits and rhythms you will learn at Valley Forge will stick with you for life, through any circumstance. You will be made stronger, able to thrive in the face of all kinds of challenges.

Mission

The mission of VFMC is to educate students within an academic and military environment to transfer to academically competitive four-year colleges, universities, or service academies.

The College builds leaders of character – for the future,  for the community,  for the country,  for the world.

We are designated as a Pennsylvania National Guard Friendly School.

Five Cornerstones

VFMC is a private two-year college founded in 1935 by Lt. Gen. Milton Baker to offer associate degrees using the military model of education. General Baker believed that the whole individual could be strengthened with a foundation of education built on Five Cornerstones.

Those cornerstones shape the individual to meet VFMC’s mission.

  1. Academic Excellence: Students acquire knowledge that develops their understanding of relevant issues and concepts at a level necessary to begin an entry-level career in their field of interest or pursue advanced study.
  2. Leadership: Students develop a personal style of leadership that applies the lessons of leadership from the classroom, as a member of the Corps of Cadets, and through service to the community.
  3. Character Development: Students construct a personal philosophy of ethical decision-making, honorable service to their community, and empathetic understanding of their place in the world.
  4. Personal Motivation: Students formulate personal plans for self-improvement and self-discipline through classroom and extra-curricular activities that demonstrate successful analysis and application of time-management, goal setting, perseverance, individual enterprise, and team engagement.
  5. Physical Development: Students develop conditioning skills that embody the holistic elements of physical, emotional, and mental fitness in order to design and maintain a personal strategy for healthy living.
